I became an electrician in 1972. Ever since I started my business, I've always been home-based. I perform all my own functions, and this home-based business has worked well.
I have had people ask me what I would recommend in advertising, and I said, you talked to the right person because I’ve tried everything. I have tried sponsoring bowling teams, little league baseball teams. I figured, I said, I sponsor the little league baseball team, maybe mom and dad will need some work. I think I got two jobs three years later from one of the moms and dads, but I found that if you just get into a search engine optimization program, and I’m hounded by them every day: ‘We got a better program. We can do your website better.’ You’re really taking a chance. So I feel comfortable with Yelp because they’ve been around. I would say that the business that I got before I started advertising with Yelp, it was 10%, and then I advertised with Yelp truly on a whim, and I was amazed at the results.
I’ve been around long enough that I used to think Yellow Pages was the greatest thing in the world, and at the time it was because that’s all that was available. But this has surpassed it so much. My personal exposure right now is greater than it ever was three years ago, and there are some months when I would say that 70% of the business comes from Yelp. So it’s really great that after looking all these years that I actually literally stumbled into something that is working well. And if it’s not broke, I’m not going to fix it.
